Macro Photography : The eighth Plague…. by yspaene
While many people fear spiders, these insects cause many more problems than all spiders together ever will. The desert locust (Schistocerca gregaria) has threatened agricultural production in Africa, the Middle East and Asia for centuries. The desert locust swarms are able to fly rapidly across great distances, this is one of the most dangerous locust species. The largest known swarm covered 1,036 km2, with about 40 million animals
They can eat nearly the equivalent of their body mass each day (2 g).
These two will never cause any plague – they live in my terrarium :-) The left one is a female, the right one a male.
